Short films

Below are a few short films I have found interesting/ well created, having browsed through a number of short films.

Crocodile

Despite it's simplicity, an engaging short film.

ReMoved - Nathanael Matanick

A poem narrated short film following a child's traumatic experience leading to multiple home placements. Techniques are used to create an eerie sadness; dull colours plague the opening scenes, and minimalist lighting creates sense of despair. There is great contrast between the dark, camo first scenes, and bright, well lit last scenes.

Ed - Hype.cg

In this CGI animated short film, a variety of shot types are cleverly used to suggest the protagonists mental state. The animation tells the story of an actor, with each role appearing as if real life, however the film has being interpreted in multiple ways, with some thoughts of an identity crisis.

With this short being an animation colour has being used body and deliberately to contrast the protagonists real and acting states. A blue (typically sombre and cold) theme runs when the protagonist is not acting, and a bright yellow to red schemes are used for acted scenes.

The Life of Death - Marcin Dubiniec

A four minuete, in some ways comical, story of death dying. Beautifully shot.

8 - Acim Vasic

A silent battlefield portrayal focusing on an intense tic-tack-toe between two soldiers; one X, one O. "moves" are made, leaving the ninth to end the game.

2016 A2 Work

Out of all the previous years music videos submitted I think these two are the most successful.

River - Bishop Briggs

Although not my personal preference this fast paced, 'trippy' project told a enrapturing story of identity through multiple well composed shots. Particularly I admired the varied use of lighting including the included silhouettes.

Jaws - Watt Productions

Shot entirely in black and white, this frankinstine tale had a clear narrative, enhanced by the featured song. The use of monochrome tones created the disiered atmostphered. Jump cuts were effectively used to portray time.

In Game - Joshua Stratton

From another school, I thought the short film below was particularly successful; an interesting jux-to-position of a virtual world and reality.
