Class Project

I have just completed a group class project to create a music video for a cover of Wonderwall by Oasis.

Our initial ideas for a music video were;

1. A montage of city strangers pretending to play along to a song, created by giving strangers a ukulele and them to "air uke" to a song played out loud.
2. Stop motion animation of obscure objects e.g. a watermelon, creeping along the streets of Leeds. 
3. A story based video, relatively simple, maybe just following someone riding a bike or walking. 
4. Remake Wonderwall. 

One student was passionate about remaking Wonderwall, so we chose to back this project. It would also be relatively simple to film and we had the necessary props.


We noted the following features; the repeated use of circles, monochrome tones, and footage of band members playing.

On our main night of filming (a school creative arts event) we used a Nikon DSLR. Shots taken included; close-up shots of instruments, medium shots of 'box heads', a zoom shot, a rack focus shot, and few others.

A team member Sophie Ferreira and I filmed and incorporated stop motion animation into the film. This was a shot which when constructed, showed a cardboard box forming out of smaller pieces of cardboard. These segments crawl along the floor and join to form the faced box. The filming and editing of this shot took about 3 hours, despite the end product being about 2 seconds long; the photos were combined to make a video, which in turn was sped up.

The editing involved framing the shots, altering the colour, and speeding speeding/ slowing the shots. Further more we fitted the shots into a curved square frame. We filmed the band playing in one long shot, unfortunately the singer made a noticeable mistake, missing the que for a verse of the song - hence we edited out the verse.

Unanimously we were pleased with the end result.
